The Trailer Park: Oblivion, The Internship, 1D3D and more
Welcome to The Trailer Park, your regular guide to the hottest teasers Tinseltown has to offer. This week we find out what Rupert Grint of Harry Potter fame is up to these days, cast our eyes over the latest Oblivion sneak peek and watch on uncomfortably as John Cusack continues to suffer the death throes of a once great career; oh yeah, we also look at some trailers too. So sit back relax and enjoy the ride…
A couple of months back we got our first glimpse of Oblivion, an upcoming sci-fi project starring pint-sized protagonist Tom Cruise alongside Morgan Freeman and Olga Kurylenko. It’s being directed by TRON: Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski who also wrote the graphic novel on which the story’s based. The plot is classic post apocalyptic fare in which Cruise’s drone repairman – sort of like a human Wall-E – embarks on a voyage of discovery uncovering the truth about the fate of mankind along the way. This latest teaser gives us a bit more of a head’s up about that journey might entail, but really it’s once again there to show off some of the spellbinding special effects which will no doubt make or break the movie.
Special effects which include some staggering shots of a deserted earth, some amazing high speed chase scenes involving a spaceship that looks like its been dreamt up in an Apple store, and an underground world that’s been lifted straight from The Matrix. All in all its pretty exciting stuff, there’s plenty to whet your appetite ahead of the movie’s April 19th release date.
The Company You Keep
Robert Redford knows a thing or two about journalist fronted conspiracy thrillers. After all he’s perhaps best known for his starring role in the Watergate inspired All The President’s Men; a film which seems suitably similar to his latest directorial outing which brings together an all star cast including Shia LaBeouf, Susan Sarandon, Anna Kendrick, Terrence Howard and Julie Christie. The action revolves around LaBeouf’s ambitious cub reporter who’s trying to get to the bottom of a conspiracy involving the FBI and a group of anti-Vietnam war activists who’ve been on the run since the 1960s. It’s an intriguing set up and the trailer promises a taught, character-driven drama that aims high and seems to hit all the right notes along the way. It’s definitely one to keep an eye on ahead of its release this April.

The Internship
Teaming up for the first time since The Wedding Crashers, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson star in this comedy about two middle-aged salesmen trying to reinvigorate their careers with an internship at Google. It looks like a classic fish out of water comedy, albeit a fish out of water comedy that seems light on laughs and heavy on product placement. There are gags aplenty, almost all of them plucking low hanging fruit from the idea of two outdated old timers going up against a gaggle of tech savvy nerds. Basically it’s the cinematic equivalent of watching your gran try and work your smartphone, and by the looks of it, only mildly more amusing. We know that Vaughn and Wilson have plenty of comic chemistry so it’s a shame that their talents have gone to waste on a film which, if this trailer is anything to go by, is going to be little more than a very long, very boring advert for the search engine giant. Still what else did we expect from a film from the man who brought us The Pink Panther?
1D3D
The One Direction boy band behemoth continues to rumble on with this upcoming concert movie from Morgan Spurlock, which promises to give us the story behind the boys success story. And what a success story it’s been. Since finishing third on the UK X Factor in 2010 the five piece have made history when their debut album entered the Billboard 200 at number 1 and have since gone on to sell more than 13million albums worldwide. The secret to their success seems to be a chummy boy next door image in which they repeatedly tell us how they’re just normal boys who are great friends and lucky to be so successful. As a result this first teaser has lots of examples of Harry, Zayn and the other three showing us how ‘normal’ they are, how ‘lucky’ they’ve been and showing us how they’re all great mates. Oh and there’s also lots and lots of screaming girls aaaaaaaggggghhhhhhhh.
The Numbers Station
For an actor who once wowed us in films like Say Anything (awesome) and High Fidelity (double awesome) it’s sad to sit back as John Cusack continues flog the dead horse of his film career. In fact it’s become downright awkward as we watch helplessly as a star who once burned so bright picks increasingly awful projects to attach himself too. By the looks of this trailer his latest project The Numbers Station, won’t be any different. The movie posits Cusack as a veteran CIA agent guarding a Numbers Station – a secret facility where coded messages are transmitted to agents across the globe. As unbelievable as it may sound, the idea is actually based in reality and the story of a series of shortwave broadcasts which enthusiasts have monitored since World War II. It’s a surprisingly interesting premise, which is why it’s so disappointing to see it turned into a paint by numbers thriller that, by the looks of this trailer at least, will deliver all the tension of someone opening a shaken up soda can. Perhaps we’re being too harsh, but you can decide for yourself when The Numbers Station opens on April 26th.

Best of the rest…
The Sapphires
Since Bridesmaids became a smash hit Irish comic Chris O’Dowd has become a regular fixture in Hollywood rom-coms, so it’s good to see him turning his undoubted talents to something with a little more substance. And The Sapphires certainly has plenty of that, as it follows the true-life tale of an Australian aboriginal band who head to the front lines to sing for the American troops in Vietnam.

Into The White
Starring a load of people you won’t recognise alongside the ginger one from Harry Potter, this World War II tale about enemy pilots forced to survive after being shot down in the Norwegian tundra certainly isn’t the worst looking film to crash and at the cinema this year. Then again that’s not saying much is it?

Hours
His previous work in the Fast and the Furious franchise hasn’t exactly demanded much depth from Paul Walker, which is perhaps why he’s turned things on their head in Hours, a thriller in which a father must keep his newborn daughter alive in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. By the looks of this teaser it’s going to be powerful stuff that’s carried almost entirely on the shoulders of a man made famous for starring in movies about fast cars.
