Star Trek Into Darkness teaser

STID-1

The first footage for J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated sequel Star Trek Into Darkness is here and... uhm... why don't you just take a look below and we can discuss, m'kay?

Right? INSANE. And it’s brimming with Cumberbatch. Benedict Cumberbatch to any folks who don't know the intense-slash-awesome British actor. We're thinking that you will be TOTALLY up to speed on Benedict Cumberbatch after this movie. Looks like his role as the villain in this is something he is taking very seriously as most of those world-rending explosions you witnessed were just a result of all the scenery chewing he was unleashing (in a very good way, of course).

Who is he? No idea and the teaser doesn't really elaborate except to demonstrate that a) he "has returned" and b) he is going to break the world. The internet People keep theorizing (wishing) that BC will be playing epic Star Trek villain Khan but that seems, well, stupid to be honest. Others are putting classic Trek nemesis Gary Mitchell (not the most nemesis-y name but trust us) as a possibility. That seems more likely if it's going to be someone familiar.

What else do we have? Well...

We have explosions. Bigger explosions. Fear. Mass panic. Uhura looking pissed. Phasers. Spock looking intense. Vague and terrifying British threats. A Kirk-induced beatdown. And ever increasing awesomeness. So, yeah, pretty much what we've all been hoping for. Dreams = achieved -- and all before the weekend. Very nice.

Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters May 17, 2013.
